Overview

DISP is committed during  school holidays to provide Playschemes for local children aged from 8 to 13.    We provide various activities including the traditional sports like football, cricket and basketball alongside badminton, table tennis, street dance and arts and crafts.   We are also fortunate enough to occasionally have the dance mats available as well as a Nintendo Wii console.

However in the last 2 years the amount of Funding available has reduced substantially. IYSS is still providing Funding for February Half-Term, Easter, Spring bank and October Half-Term.

We have a number of qualified coaches who supervise the activities and when the weather is suitable we organise outdoor activities on the sports fields outside the Arena.  We are very fortunate to have such a facility in this neighbourhood and we hope that by participating in the Playscheme our children and young people will become more aware of the opportunities there are to enjoy sport and keep fit.   This also applies to parents who bring their children to the Playscheme, opening their eyes to the quality facilities which Kirklees Active Leisure provides.

Our Project uses sport as a means of encouraging young people to keep fit and integrate into the community.   The playscheme is one way in which we introduce them not only to traditional sports but also to the less popular but equally enjoyable fringe sports. The Playschemes run every school holiday and half term (except Christmas) at the Deighton Sports Arena. Registration forms are usually available from local schools and from other centres, such as the Chestnut Centre.
